McDaniel College
New Media
In the event that the Coronavirus pandemic has uprooted lives across the globe, a major aspect impacted in my life was the change in college curriculum. Almost halfway through the Spring semester of my Sophomore year at McDaniel College, we were told that we would have a two week online course period after Spring Break to allow for the virus to resolve itself and quarantine ourselves. Those two weeks have lasted almost eight now. It's been almost two months of online learning, which is not easy in the slightest.
As every course has its challenges, one of the biggest challenges for this semester was from the New Media course I am taking. We focused the entire semester on Augmented Reality using Unity and Vuforia on Mac desktops. Without access to these higher-end computers, it is difficult for us to use our personal technology for the intended purpose of the course.
After the news that we would not be attending campus for face-to-face classes again, my New Media professor decided for us to have weekly reports and create a project dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic. The topics were all inclusive and connect together, which means we just needed to create an informational project about life right now. Our only criteria was to think outside of the box and create something that is worthy of being a final project. This website serves as the documentation of my final project, which is an augmented mural in my bedroom. I have created informational posters to go along with the project and they will be links on the augmentation I create.
